A small bedroom.
Unfortunately, in our country, quite a few families are familiar with the problem of small-sized residential premises. But fortunately there are a number of design techniques that you can use to visually increase the space. It should immediately be noted that there are several contentious issues in which experts have not come to a consensus. We will highlight them separately. Initially, we note unconditional points.
The color of the walls. In a small room, only light colors are allowed. Warm shades fill it with comfort, but at the same time “narrow” the space. The cold ones saturate the room with light and visually expand it, making, however, more official. Will it be decorative plastering, painting or wallpapering – it does not matter. The main thing is the choice of color. If at the same time one wall (best of all the one at which the head of the bed is located) has a different color – more saturated and deep – this will give additional space to the room. It must be remembered that a vertical drawing “lengthens” the room, making it narrower, horizontal, on the contrary, expands and visually lowers the ceiling. The use of wallpaper with a large pattern is strictly contraindicated – they emphasize the insignificant scale of the room.
The choice of furniture. It is better to use medium-sized furniture. Heavy cabinets and chests of drawers must be discarded. Bedside tables are also best replaced with consoles. All furniture should have legs, and not “grow” out of the floor. This will give it airiness and make the interior easier. Using mirrors will saturate the room with extra light and space. Designers advise to ignore one of the Feng Shui installations and place a mirror surface opposite the window – so it will fulfill its function to the maximum.
Lighting. A small room can be visually expanded due to the correct lighting scenario. You need to use several light sources. Bulky chandeliers in the center of the room are contraindicated. Spotlights, openwork sconces above the bed, floor lamp are possible. A very successful option would be to use a light tape located at the level of the ceiling baguette – this technique will visually expand the room and raise the ceiling. The same result will be achieved in the case when the tape is launched over the baseboard throughout the radius of the room. The room will receive additional volume if the light tape is put in behind the curtain rod.
Decor He should not be intrusive, but he should not completely abandon him. It is necessary to avoid, for example, heavy massive paintings, however, a picture hanging at the head of the bed with a plot going into the distance would be very appropriate. The task of expanding the space will also serve as wallpaper, which can also be used to decorate the wall at the head. It is possible to use small open shelves with photos on them. However, you need to abandon the many decorative pillows on the bed, as well as small decorative art objects that will crush the room, turning the bedroom into a warehouse of forgotten substances.
Window decoration. The window should be as open as possible and serve as a source of light. Therefore, you need to abandon heavy dark curtains, it is better to use roller blinds and light tulle. You can also not force the window sill with flower pots or pillows. Illumination of slopes with a light tape will look good.
Some controversial points
Designers disagree – what color of the ceiling is optimal for a small bedroom. Conventional wisdom is white. However, some experts claim that the bright, saturated color of the ceiling will immediately expand the space. An equally bold decision is to make the floor striped. This will “tear” it from the walls and make the room soaring. In this case, the baseboard should be as wide as possible – this technique expands the floor area. These are very courageous proposals, and whether you follow them or confine yourself to generally accepted methods is up to you.
But by listening to our advice, you will at least visually increase the area of your bedroom and make it cozy, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.
