How to choose furniture in the dining room?
The dining room in the traditional sense is a room for gala dinners of a large family and treat guests. From time immemorial, in rich houses, places of cooking and its acceptance were separated from each other by a rather large distance. It was very convenient in the presence of servants, in modern apartments and houses, such a separation of the kitchen and dining room is sometimes difficult, and sometimes not necessary.
Nowadays, the dining room (or rather, just a dining table with chairs) is usually located directly in the kitchen, and the hostess does not have to travel any distances to serve the table and serve cooked dishes. In addition, in the age of speed and complete time pressure, we have absolutely no time to dine for a long time, waiting for the next change of dishes. In spacious houses, a separate room can be allocated for the dining room. In this case, you will need the appropriate furniture: a large dining table and several chairs, as well as glazed cabinets for storing utensils, cutlery and linen. These are all kinds of cupboards, sideboards, display cases, slides, etc. The functions of such cabinets include not only the storage of relevant items, but also a demonstration of the well-being of the owners of the house. And, most importantly, transparent glass allows you to admire the beauty of the objects of art, collections and elegant services that are in them.
The dining table can have any shape: round, oval, rectangular or other – the choice is up to you. However, if you often receive guests in the house, it is important that there is enough space for everyone, so try to figure out the size of the table in advance.
Chairs in the dining room should have a solid seat and a straight back, otherwise their designs can vary significantly (although in any case chairs on casters are inappropriate here). Sometimes chairs are replaced with strict high chairs equipped with armrests. Before buying a dining set, be sure to calculate how many chairs you and your guests may need.
In open-plan rooms, the dining room is often combined with the living room or kitchen. The dining area is separated from the seating area with sofas and soft chairs using shelving and partitions or by differences in decoration and color. In this case, by analogy with a separate dining room, you will also have to buy a large dining table with chairs. The dining room can be separated from the kitchen by the bar. And in order to achieve the full effect of the separation of the places of preparation and absorption of food, it is advisable to equip the dining area with a separate lighting system. Then, by turning on the bright light above the table, you can immerse the kitchen in the shade.
Often the dining room, or rather, the dining area is located directly “inside” the kitchen (if the area allows). In rooms with a U-shaped arrangement of furniture, a table for eating with chairs or stools can be located in the center of the kitchen (like an “island”) or protrude from the wall as a “peninsula”.
In kitchens with an L-shaped layout, the table is often set in the corner opposite to the one in which the cabinet furniture is located. Instead of chairs and stools, special corner sofas are used as a seat. These “corners” are fundamentally different from the soft and vast brothers standing in the living room. Like the chairs in traditional dining rooms, they have a straight back and fairly solid seating.
In many modern apartments with small kitchens, the dining room is missing even in a “trimmed” form. Its role is played, for example, by a transforming table complete with folding chairs, which can be folded after lunch.
Most often, the dining room as an independent room is solved in the classical style or even in the Baroque style (with many decorative elements, carvings and other decorations). If a separate room for the dining room in the house does not stand out, its style usually corresponds to the style of those rooms “inside” of which it is located.
